EU-kommisjonen har godkjent Levitra ^® (vardenafil HCI) – en ny munnløselig tablett til behandling av ereksjonsproblemer (erektil dysfunksjon, ED). Sammenlignet med andre legemidler i samme klasse, er Levitra 10 mg det første legemidlet mot ereksjonsproblemer som kan inntas uten vann – noe som gjør medisineringen mer diskret og bekvem.Tabletten løses opp på tungen på noen sekunder og gir en smak av mint.

- Vi arbeider kontinuerlig med å finne nye og innovative alternativer for behandling av ereksjonsproblemer.Som et ledd i dette arbeidet har vi nå utviklet en munnløselig tablett som er bekvem og enkel å ta for mannen.Det gjør det mulig for menn med ereksjonsproblemer å slippe følelsen av å ta et legemiddel, samtidig som det blir mulig å være mer spontan i samlivet, sier Inga-Lill Hyltander, forretningsområdesjef hos Bayer Schering Pharma.

Kliniske studier med 12 ukers behandling med 10 mg munnløselig Levitra, i forhold til placebo, viser at Levitra gir et statistisk signifikant overlegent resultat i primære og sekundære effektivitetsmålinger ^1–10. I Europa begynner lanseringen av legemidlet i november 2010. I USA godkjennes legemidlet i juni 2010 og skal markedsføres av GlaxoSmithKline og Merck & Co, Inc. under handelsnavnet STAXYN ™.

Erektil dysfunksjon

· Halvparten av alle menn over 40 år kan bli rammet av potenssvikt av og till.

· Problemet blir mer vanlig med alderen.

· På tross av at mange menn lider av ereksjonsproblemer, er det få som søker hjelp.

· Ereksjonsproblemer innebærer en vedvarende eller tilbakevendende manglende evne til å få eller opprettholde en tilstrekkelig ereksjon for seksuell aktivitet.
